The Cardinal Health Foundation announced (August 11, 2010) that for the third consecutive year it has awarded more than $1 million in grant funding to help U.S. hospitals, health systems and community health clinics improve the efficiency and quality of care. Forty organizations in 25 states have been awarded grants ranging from $7,500 up to $37,500 as part of the 2010 Cardinal Health Foundation E3 Grant Program. Receiving funding to support either medication management projects or operating room safety, Ohio recipients include Nationwide Children's Hospital (Columbus), Mercy Willard Hospital (Willard), Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Fund for Our Economic Future announced (August 17, 2010) the appointment of president Brad Whitehead to the Ohio Venture Capital Authority(OVCA) by Governor Ted Strickland. The OVCA is charged with establishing the terms and conditions of an investment policy governing the deployment of the Ohio Venture Capital Fund Program to increase private investment capital for Ohio companies in the early stages of business development. The program seeks to drive entrepreneurial growth, job creation and economic prosperity in Ohio by creating a "fund of funds" portfolio of seed and early stage capital investments. The OVCA is comprised of three members. Other appointed members include Mark Williams, executive vice president and director of strategic planning of KeyCorp and Dr. S. Michael Camp, academic director of the Center for Entrepreneurship of the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University.
Akron Community Foundation announced (August 17, 2010) that the Rosalie and Cecil Smith Fund is accepting requests from local spay and neuter organizations in an effort to help reduce the area’s stray cat population. The fund will award grants totaling $10,000 to $15,000 to one or more nonprofits working to reduce the overpopulation and suffering of Summit County’s untamed stray, or feral, cats. Applications are due October 15, 2010. Grants will be awarded in late November.
